Technically, despite being listed as a revolver by the NSSF, it's not really a handgun. It has a full walnut stock and sixteen-inch barrel, meaning that the Rough Rider Rancher is actually a six-shooter carbine with an overall length of thirty-two inches.

In this regard, it bridges the gap between a revolver and a full rifle, offering the better features of each, but also a few issues. Despite being chambered for .22LR, it is still a powerful weapon weighing in at around sixty ounces.
It's single-action only, which is to be expected given that it's the category in which Heritage Arms has made its name — so much so that the company ranks second in revolvers in the U.S. behind Storm, Ruger & Company.

The Heritage Arms Rough Rider Rancher Rotary Carbine isn't designed for either of those, and at first glance, it's really a problem solver. Still, the biggest problem is that this is a really large .22LR revolver with a stock, which is noted by the lack of a handguard.
Although the .22 barrel may take a lot of detail to shoot to heat up, a single-action revolver allows gases to escape between the cylinder and the barrel – which does not make for a pleasant experience.
