It has nothing to do with the safety or liberties of the American people. The last time the US military was deployed to fight for American life was in World War II, an inconvenient fact that shatters the cliché of “thanking soldiers” for free speech.

Chelsea Manning, now in prison as a whistleblower, described a series of incidents where fellow soldiers laughed while killing civilians.
Keith Gentry, a former Navy SEAL, wrote that when he and his unit were bored, they preferred to pass the time on YouTube videos of airstrikes in Iraq and Afghanistan, often cracking jokes and mocking America's victims of violence.
If killing civilians, raping "brothers" and torturing death and foreigners as entertainment bait counts as heroism, the world needs better criminals. A social worker who is committed to caring for and advocating for adults with developmental disabilities, helping them find jobs, group homes and medical care, and simply being compassionate and kind is a hero.
A hospice worker in a poor neighborhood who provided precious comfort and comfort to a man dying on the fringes of America's poor health care was a hero. An inner-city teacher who works hard to provide essential education and meaningful validation to children living in neighborhoods where bullets fly and families fall apart is a hero.

The Military Heroes Campaign is funded by donations from the local scholar branch of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and philanthropic funds that go directly to non-profit organizations that provide service and support to armed forces veterans and their families in the United States and Canada.
Through this gift, our organization continues to provide the support needed to improve the lives of veterans and their families. It is equally difficult for anyone who is intelligent and not steeped in a syrup of patriotic sentimentality to stop saluting and viewing the soldiers of the American military with criticism and scepticism.
There is an epidemic of sexual harassment in the military. in 2003 A Department of Defense study found that a third of women seeking medical care through the VA system reported experiencing rape or sexual assault while serving in the military.
Internal and external research shows that since the official investigation, the number of sexual assaults within the military has increased, especially with men. According to the Pentagon, 38 men are sexually assaulted in the US military every day.
Given that rape and sexual assault are traditionally the least reported crimes, the dire statistics likely do not reflect the reality of the world of sexual crimes that the United States military has become. The aim of this historic initiative is to raise funds for each branch's scholarship fund.

An unheroic war has no real heroes except those who oppose the war. Far from being heroes of recent wars, American soldiers were among their victims. No rational person can blame a soldier, marine, airman, or navy for the U.S. government's stupid and destructive foreign policy, but calling them "heroes" and taking it for granted makes for an honest and critical conversation about Americans.

On the other hand, if American politicians and pundits really believe that members of the American military are "heroes," they will not be satisfied with snarky slogans and awards. They will insist that veterans receive the best health care possible.
Improving and universalizing high-quality health care for all Americans, including veterans, is a far better and more righteous way of respecting the risks soldiers and Marines under command than imposing the rules of teenagers and dictators informally on language that is nothing less than absolute.

Every hero needs a villain. If the only heroes are the gunmen fighting the war on drugs and the war in the Middle East, then America's only criminals are criminals and terrorists.
If the servants of the poor, the sick, and the oppressed are heroes, the villains are those who oppress, profit from inequality and poverty, and neglect the sick. If this is really a battle between heroism and evil, then everyone is involved, and everyone has a much bigger role to play than shouting slogans, tying ribbons, and sticking bumper stickers.

There is no doubt that there are police officers who bravely carry out their motto and mission to “serve and protect”, just as there is no doubt that there are members of the military who dare to sacrifice for others.
Seeing research that shows the brutality and lies of law enforcement and military officials and reading stories of trauma and tragedy caused by officers and soldiers does not mean that there are no police or military who can be called heroes, but it certainly means that there are many of them.
